messages > Smuggler's Bash 2012?
The bash will be March 31/ April 1. Come on out. we already have 7 boats and will have more sign on as the event gets closer. Spitdog has signed on as did Three little birds, Hallona, Bodisatva, Salty Goat and a few more that I can't remember. Mike Adams has a new, (to him) Catalina....I'm thinking that will make a fine meeting? drinking/ bull shitting destination for Sat. night.

Hey Chris and All,
Yes it's the Smuggler's this weekend, but there are some early indications that there could be another blow through this weekend (ie. another round of gale force winds) and that we may have to reschedule.. it is still early so we are going to monitor the situation, but in case this weekend is bad, how about the weekend after that? Early forecasts would indicate that the following week is warming up and looking a lot nicer. Please post availability and whatever else here and we will try to use this message board to organize the event!

Easter Sunday might be better, if the winds are good, Paula and Richard might venture out.
Richard and Paula
Easter Sunday at Santa Cruz Island... I'm liking that concept...thank God we have a commodore who is also an ordained man of the cloth.......might even be Christian. May the Easter beer bunny be good to us,
chuck
Well I could do it on Easter sunday too, will depend on the weather this weekend and the willingness of the rest to do an Easter run...I counted it out on the group e-mail but maybe I was wrong to do so that quickly... NWS now saying :
Sat...NW winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt. Combined seas 4 to 6 ft
Commodore
Any other participants checking in here, please post as to whether or not you are willing and able to do the Bash on Easter Sunday weekend...

Thanks Chuck & Will for the info.
I'll be monitoring the weather and this site for updates.

Not sure if this works on this page...but here is a wind model for Sat. about 2 :00 from Sailfow. If it holds up to be true, I think Spitdog, with an early start, ( my loyal crew Pat has to wake up before his usual 10 AM start of the day), can bash into Smugglers this weekend. Sunday looks to be perfect for a breezy sail back to the barn.

Glad to see the rain out of the weekend forecast (at least for now) because Wendy and I are out of town for Easter. We'll be at Smug's this weekend if the weather is half way decent.
Mike Young
Damn Manley, that wind model makes me want to wet my little panties right here on the saftey of land. Salty goat has a big anchor but if that is how hard it is gonna blow out there I'd rather be at home in my warm cozy bed.... although Sunday does look like a fine day to sail back. Suggest also the possibility of heading around Anacapa if it is blowing early and coming up the backside there, can have a sweet sail around the arch and all the way back to Cat Rock before turning on the motor and working up into Smuggs

Hi club We hope to race on Sunday. We can not go on Easter. We are sailing to Santa Cruz on sat. 31. If the race is on, do we know the harbor we will finish in. Thanks for the info. SID/STAR TOO

Yes, the forecasts are looking pretty good now for the weekend, windy on Sat. night but not too bad, probably in the 20 knts range with higher gusts from the NW which is pretty reasonable for Smugglers. If the forecast remains the same I say it is a GO for the Smuggler's Bash - of course I must add that all participants must judge the weather forcasts for themselves and make a personal decision on whether or not to go - I, or the VSC, in NO WAY personally guarantee that the weather will be safe for you and your vessel! Now, having made that disclaimer, I do plan on heading out early Saturday morning - would be nice to have everyone that is going check in on this page and then we will also monitor channel 72 on the radio as we make our way across.

And oh yeah, the Smuggler's Bash will finish in CI Harbor!

latest NWS update not looking too good again...

Sat Night...W winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 30 kt in the evening...becoming NW 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt. Combined seas 9 to 12 ft.
Sun...NW winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 30 kt. Combined seas 9 to 12 ft
let's stay posted, thx for your update Star 2 - still hoping all participants will check in here

With the current forecast, Spitdog is out for this weekend. Easter weekend just looks like a lot more fun. If you go to "sail flow" and hit the wind model screen on the left and scroll to Sat. night there are lots of colors , mostly reds and purples going through Santa Cruz Island. Add the possibility of horizontal rain ....not that much fun. Also realize that smugglers can often accelerate that NW wind down the canyon at night, venturi effect...you guys may want to move over to Yellowbanks.
chuck
Hey there,
I haven’t posted anything ‘cause I been down with the flue the whole week and was waiting to see if I’ll be ready to sail this weekend. At this point I’m still not over it and with the current forecast I must say Halona is out. I’m all for Easter Weekend should be up and rumming by then.
Norbert
Bodhisattva is going out tomorrow (still looks good for surf at Yellowbanks), but if the forecast doesn't change we'll probably come home Saturday afternoon. I'm betting you guys will delay it a week, in which case we'll have to miss it. I recommend a pre-race Easter beer hunt!

Breezy is not going to make it out to Smuggler's this weekend, sorry to say.
Chris J.
Well it did turn out to be a bad weekend, so we are on for April 7-8th, sorry for those that can't go out for Easter, but it is the best option considering, and it looks like good weather so far next weekend. Hope to see lots of boats check in here for the Smuggler's Bash next weekend!
Today...W winds 5 to 10 kt...becoming SW to W 10 to 20 kt with frequent gusts to 25 kt in the afternoon. Combined seas 4 to 6 ft with a dominant period of 15 seconds. Scattered showers.
Tonight...W winds 15 to 25 kt in the evening...becoming NW 20 to 30 kt with frequent gusts to 35 kt late. Combined seas 6 to 8 ft dominant period 14 seconds...building to 8 to 11 ft dominant period 14 seconds after midnight. Chance of rain in the evening...then slight chance of showers.
Sun...W to NW winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Combined seas 11 to 14 ft dominant period 14 seconds...building to 13 to 16 ft dominant period 14 seconds by afternoon

Cherri & MIke

Any plans for a Smuggler's Bash this year? I need some motivation to get my boat ready for the year and a VSC cruise/race is just the ticket. So, who knows what's up?
Sorry if it's been covered at meetings, but I haven't been able to attend the last few.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the water soon.
